Enjoy Volunteering in Carol Stream

Are you looking for a way to give back to our community? Volunteering in Carol Stream is the perfect way to give something back while also meeting new people.

Whether you enjoy playing with friendly dogs or spending time outdoors, here are three opportunities that may be right for you:

West Suburban Humane Society

Founded in 1972 as a lost and found referral service, the West Suburban Humane Society is now a highly visible shelter and adoption facility. This non-profit organization always operates at capacity and houses up to 25 cats and dogs at a time. The animals are accepted no matter their age, breed, or health, and approximately 600 are saved every year.

The society states that without its volunteers, it would not exist. Volunteers clean kennels, socialize cats, and work as adoption counselors among other tasks.

Morton Arboretum

Established in 1972, the goal of the Morton Arboretum is to encourage the planting of trees for a greener, healthier, and more beautiful world. Founder Joy Morton’s father created Arbor Day, and over the years, the Arboretum has evolved while staying true to the Morton family motto, “Plant Trees.”

The Arboretum expands the Mortons’ vision through the efforts of more than 1,000 volunteers. There are several opportunities including joining the Bike Safety Patrol. These volunteers pedal along the 1,700-acre grounds to assist the visitors exploring by bicycle. They work two shifts per month and receive benefits such as free admission and discounts on adult classes.

Forest Preserve District of DuPage County

The Forest Preserve District contains nearly 26,000 acres and connects people to nature at sixty preserves. The district has protected and improved the county’s natural areas for over a century.

There are volunteer opportunities for individuals of all interests. Volunteers can even work directly with ecologists to restore natural diversity to the preserves. Volunteers also monitor bird, amphibian, and reptile populations, and help remove invasive species to re-establish native prairie and woodlands.

Our apartments in Carol Stream are close to volunteer opportunities, dining and shopping, and so much more. If you are thinking about calling Carol Stream Crossing home, please contact us. We’d love for you to see our offerings firsthand. You can also check out our online photo gallery anytime.
